The Secret Strategies to Successful Infographics

So you want to create an infographic?

Here's the inside track on how the top dogs in the field make amazing, viral infographics.

I always say that the future of brand marketing is content, not ads.  At Sharethrough, we're the first ad technology company built exclusively for content, not traditional ads, focused primarily on the distribution of social video content.

Looking beyond just video at other "content not ads" mediums, infographics are compelling, easily-produced, and often highly impactful.  If you're a startup, a brand marketer, or a media company, infographics are an amazingly effective way to communicate new information in a quick, visual, and potentially-viral way.

So how do you make an amazing infographic?

In this post you'll find:

THE ORIGINAL GANGSTERS OF INFOGRAPHIC MARKETING

Here are my favorite companies that use infographics as a core marketing strategy:

1. KissMetrics

Hiten Shah is an inspiration to lots of aspiring entrepreneurs.  Put him on your radar if he's not already.  KissMetrics has done a great job with viral, shareable, "insidery" infographics.

Mint.com is the OG when it comes to infographics promoted via the corporate blog.  Check out some of their amazing data visualizations here:

- Finally, I invite all of you to visit Visual Loop ( http://visualoop.tumblr.com/ ), we have there over 11.500 infographics, video-infographics and data-visualizations, and add at least 30 new ones everyday, from all over the world.

In the third sentence, you say infographics are "easily produced." But not one word about how. (Other than hiring some creative whiz-bang).

@Chuck:

1. True. Though if you're a brand marketer looking for a scalable model for infographics, working with a variety of agencies and production companies and evaluating them against each other in an iterative way is probably the best approach.

2. Visual.ly is building a product that should help with the creation of infographics. Talk to Stew!
